Sun 14 Apr 2024 Michelle Cooke

This year's Book Week was jam-packed with activities. • Ollie's success celebrated!

    Ollie’s winning design

Ollie’s amazing art skills were acknowledged this lunchtime by a visit from Mr Anthony Browne, MP for South Cambridgeshire.  Mr Browne had invited primary aged children from across his constituency to design his Christmas card for 2023.  We were delighted when Ollie was announced as the winner of the competition and Matyas, as a runner up.

During his visit, Mr Browne talked to the Key Stage 2 children about what it meant to be a Member of Parliament and they had the chance to ask him questions.

Mr Browne then presented Ollie with his prizes:  a House of Lords Teddy Bear, some copies of his cards and a photograph of Mr Browne handing a copy of his Christmas card to the Prime Minister, Rishi Sunak.

Well done Ollie!  We are all very proud of you.

  • More Residential News

    Tue 06 Jun 2023 E Stevens

The Residential Crew have had a very busy day. Groups Three and Four visited Mersea Island to create amazing beach art in the morning. Groups One and Two honed their bush craft skills and tackled the high ropes course.

In the afternoon Group Three made tasty pancakes over the campfire whilst Group Four enjoyed the views from the top of the ropes course.

Years One and Two went orienteering. It was a long course so we suspect they will sleep well tonight.

The younger members of the crew would like you to know they are having a brilliant time. In fact a number mentioned they would quite like to extend their stay.

The older members of the crew are really impressed with their positive attitude and determination as they try new skills.

They will be home tomorrow by 3:15pm . We will put a message on the website if they are delayed.

Here is a little synopsis of Monday:

We arrived all well and eager to see what Fairplay House has to offer. We were welcomed in by Pete, who talked us through what we are doing, what the expectations are and how the days will run. We then had a yummy lunch of buffet food, followed by amazing cookies before heading out for our first activities.

Group 1 had a great time working on their survival skills, including cooking pancakes!

Group 2 were incredibly brave on the high ropes, with everyone giving it a go!

Group 3 and 4 had a fantastic time orienteering in James Cooke's wood, discovering lots of clues and a bit of history.

Once we were back, it was time to make the beds. We all gave it a good go and eventually (with some assistance) they were all made.

In the evening, after a dinner of fish/veggie fingers and chips, we were dropped off in groups to walk back to Fairplay House. We enjoyed working as a team to navigate back and loved using the walkie-talkie to communicate where we were. Luckily, we all made it back before dark.

With a day full of walking and activities, we headed to bed - it didn't take us too long to fall asleep!

    Speak to you soon,

  • Gardening Club up and running!

Sun 14 May 2023 Michelle Cooke

Mrs Cooke is running a gardening club during the Summer Term.

Twenty enthusiastic children from Reception to Year 5 have come along for the last three Thursdays and made a great start to a number of gardening projects. We have dug out some dead plants, cleared weeds, dug over existing beds, and sown some vegetable seeds. We have also planted sunflowers to take part in a competition run by Scotsdales. With help from Mr Cooke, the children have helped to build some new raised beds for the school grounds. We have had kind donations of seeds and plants from some parents, including some tomato plants which have already been planted too.
